What is a metaverse?

A metaverse is a combination of multiple elements of technology, including virtual reality, augmented reality and video where users live within a digital universe. In other words, a metaverse is a shared virtual environment that people access via the Internet. Technologies like Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are combined in a metaverse to create a sense of "virtual presence". To make everything clear - augmented reality overlays visual elements, sounds and other sensory inputs onto real-world settings to enhance the user experience. The virtual reality is entirely virtual and enhances fictional realities.

But metaverses are not only for gaming. There are so many other areas of potential implementations where virtual and augmented reality can be used. For example, within the educational sector, as a way to allow for interactive environments for learning, in healthcare for practicing or even performing surgeries and much, much more.

Imagine this as a pyramid structure of industries and technology that enable the existence of a metaverse, where at the top you have the User Experience layer, or the final product. The immersion of human interactions being digitally represented in a virtual reality. To make all that possible, several industries need to work together, and to allow people to experience a metaverse - we must first tell them about it.
